Alexandria, Va – Yesterday, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia members and volunteers partnered with ProgressVA, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, Virginia Latina Advocacy Network, SEIU Virginia 512, other members of the Women’s Equality Coalition and partners to host a Unite for Justice rally in Alexandria, Virginia. Close to 200 of our allies and members mobilized to urge Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to vote “No” on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh’s nomination threatens to gut Roe v. Wade, criminalize abortion, and punish women. We can’t and won’t go back to the days when abortion was left up to state legislatures. Kavanaugh’s confirmation would also put other fundamental rights, like workers’ rights, immigrant rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and voting rights at risk. NPCV helped organize this action in conjunction with events across the country for yesterday’s “Unite for Justice” National Day of Action with MoveOn and over 60 other partners who oppose the nomination of Kavanaugh.
Among those who addressed the crowd on Sunday were State Senator Adam Ebbin, Delegate Hala Ayala, Delegate Charniele Herring, Tilly Bland of SEIU Virginia 512, Sarah Flores Shannon of the Virginia Latina Advocacy Network, OB/GYN Dr. Diane Horvath, Alexsis Rodgers of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, Virginia House of Delegates Senior Legislative Aide Rodrigo Velasquez, and NPCV Executive Director Tarina Keene.
