Alexandria, Va. – NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is proud to endorse Democratic incumbent Senator Rosalyn Dance, representing Virginians 16th Senate District.
Senator Dance has been a long-time advocate for women and families in Virginia and has a voting record of supporting comprehensive reproductive healthcare legislation. Senator Dance understands the critical need for all Virginians to have the ability to make their own personal reproductive healthcare decisions without interference from politicians.
“We are confident that Senator Dance will continue to be a strong advocate for reproductive freedom in the state Senate and fight to protect and expand access to the full gamut of reproductive healthcare and rights,” said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. “At a time in our history like no other—when we are seeing a new wave of unprecedented attacks and near-total bans on abortion across this country, we need reproductive rights advocates like Senator Dance in the state Senate to stand up and fight for women and families in Virginia.”
“During Joe Morrisey’s time in the House of Delegates, time and time again, he voted against women’s health legislation,” commented Tarina Keene. Morrisey voted to shut down women’s health centers by supporting a Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP) bill. This legislation discriminated against and singled out abortion providers from other similar doctors’ offices which led to the closure of several women healthcare facilities across the state, limiting access to vital reproductive healthcare. Come November, Virginia has the opportunity to flip both chambers and make history by establishing a pro-choice majority in the General Assembly. If that happens we can pass meaningful, lasting reproductive freedom legislation and we need Senator Dance’s leadership in the state Senate to make this future a reality.”
“I’m proud to have NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s endorsement,” said Senator Dance. “As a nurse and public servant who has served in the House of Delegates and is a current member of the state Senate, I will continue to stand up for women and families across Virginia to ensure that every Virginian, no matter their zip code or economic status, has access to compassionate and comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including safe and legal abortion care.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and its PAC support candidates who are dedicated to family planning, preventing unintended pregnancy, and increasing access to reproductive healthcare for women and families. The organization’s powerful statewide network of 22,000 activists will mobilize pro-choice voters throughout Virginia to help elect pro-choice candidates in November.
