NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Announces Third Round of Endorsements to Flip the Virginia House and Senate on November 5th

Endorsed Pro-Choice Candidates Will Protect Reproductive Freedom and Ensure Anti-Choice Republicans Never Ban Abortion in the Commonwealth

Alexandria, Va.- Today, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC announced its third round of candidate endorsements in Virginia’s 2019 House of Delegates and state Senate races. NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC sets a high bar for candidates seeking endorsement and only considers those who receive a 100% on its 29-question candidate questionnaire.

With Roe v. Wade hanging by a thread and states around the country passing laws to ban abortion, it is more critical than ever that voters elect candidates that stand up and never back down from their values and principles as advocates for reproductive health, rights, and freedom.  The majority of Virginians – 72% –  trust a woman to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions and do not want politicians interfering. They expect their legislators to secure a future that safeguards access to abortion care and upholds basic rights and justice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or they will be held accountable at the ballot box.

“I am confident our endorsed candidates will stand up and fight to protect and advance reproductive freedom for every Virginian.  These candidates will ensure anti-choice Republicans never accomplish their real agenda – banning abortion and criminalizing women,” said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia.  “For the first time in history, Virginia has the opportunity to flip both chambers and establish a pro-choice majority in the General Assembly. If that happens, we can repeal burdensome laws that threaten a woman’s health and life and pass meaningful, enduring reproductive rights legislation. With increased threats to abortion care across the country, the stakes could not be higher when it comes to protecting our rights and freedoms. Now is the time for every Virginian that supports access to birth control and safe, legal abortion to get out and vote their values and support our endorsed candidates.”

Endorsements highlight NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s dedication to flipping the anti-choice controlled Virginia House and state Senate to establish a pro-choice majority in the General Assembly for the first time in history, needed to protect and expand access to reproductive healthcare and rights.
