Alexandria, Va.- Today, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC announced its fifth round of candidate endorsements in Virginia’s 2019 House of Delegates races. NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC sets a high bar for candidates seeking endorsement and only considers those who receive a 100% on its 29-question candidate questionnaire.

With 6 days left until Election Day, the stakes could not be higher for reproductive health and rights in Virginia. For the first time in history, Virginia has the opportunity to flip both chambers and establish a pro-choice majority in the General Assembly and pass meaningful, enduring reproductive rights legislation in the upcoming 2020 session.

Since Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, the anti-choice movement has felt emboldened to overturn or severely gut Roe, prompting anti-abortion politicians in over 30 states to introduce, pass, or sign extreme bans on abortion. However, in both Virginia and across America, polling consistently shows that 7 in 10 voters trust a woman to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions, and do not want politicians interfering in a woman’s ability to make personal healthcare decisions. Virginian’s expect their elected officials to secure a future that safeguards access to abortion care and upholds basic rights and justice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“Across the Potomac river, we know Roe v. Wade is hanging by a thread and that access to safe, legal abortion is under attack by anti-abortion politicians here in Virginia. That’s why it is critical for Virginians to vote their values and principles on November 5th and elect our endorsed candidates who will fight to protect and advance access to reproductive freedom for every Virginian regardless of what happens at the federal level,” said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia.

“Our endorsed candidates recognize the urgency of protecting safe and legal abortion in Virginia and will stand up for all Virginians to have access to the full range of reproductive healthcare services without interference from politicians,” commented Tarina Keene. “By getting out to vote on Tuesday, November 5th we can prevent anti-abortion politicians from advancing their real agenda: to ban abortion and criminalize women here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Instead, we can create a Virginia where every individual has the freedom to control their own reproductive destiny, and therefore, their future and lives.

Endorsements highlight NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s dedication to flipping the anti-choice controlled Virginia House and state Senate to establish a pro-choice majority in the General Assembly for the first time in history, needed to protect and expand access to reproductive healthcare and rights.

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC is pleased to announce the following endorsed candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates:

Delegate Vivian Watts, House District 39

Delegate Jeff Bourne, House District 39

Delegate Mark Levine, House District 45

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and its PAC support candidates who are dedicated to family planning, preventing unplanned pregnancy, increasing access to reproductive healthcare for women and families and protecting and expanding access to safe, legal abortion care. The organization’s powerful statewide network of 22,000 activists will mobilize pro-choice voters throughout Virginia to help elect candidates in November.
