NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Statement on the Return of Legislators to the General Assembly Special Session

Today, legislators returned to Richmond to start doing what they should have done a month ago: negotiate a budget for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Activists, advocates, and constituents greeted Virginia’s lawmakers as they entered the Capitol, demanding that the General Assembly finally expand Medicaid coverage for hundreds of thousands of Virginians.

After the Virginia House of Delegates voted decisively to pass their budget, which includes Medicaid expansion for hundreds of thousands of Virginians (68Y – 32N), and the state Senate rejected Medicaid expansion along party lines (21N – 19Y) before passing their budget this afternoon, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Executive Director Tarina Keene issued the following statement.

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Statement on Budget Amendments to Restrict Abortion Funding for Fetal Anomalies for Medicaid-Eligible Women

After the House of Delegates voted to eliminate funding for abortions for Medicaid-eligible pregnant women diagnosed with a severe and incapacitating fetal anomaly (50Y – 49N) and the state Senate defeated an identical budget amendment on a voice vote, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Executive Director Tarina Keene issued the following statement.
