The 2020 Virginia General Assembly session ran from January 8 through March 7, 2020. NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia was at the Capitol all session long tracking legislation, testifying at committee hearings, and educating lawmakers, the public, and the media about legislation. And we succeeded in not only stripping some of the worst abortion restrictions from the Virginia Code with the Reproductive Health Protection Act but also expanding protections against discrimination for pregnant employees with the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. See the link below for all of our 2020 legislative achievements.
In 2019, Virginia Legislators signed our 2019 Statement of Intent. We worked in partnership with the Whole Woman’s Health Alliance to ask all our elected officials to show support for the values and mission of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia by adding their names to the 2019 Statement of Intent. Virginia’s Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and nearly 60 state legislators have all chosen to stand in solidarity with us, promising to protect and expand reproductive rights in Virginia. We thank our allies and champions for their ongoing work to make true reproductive freedom a lasting reality in our Commonwealth. Read our Statement of Intent and view the legislators in support here: Statement of Intent.
The 2021 Legislative Session is just around the corner. Session will start this January and run through February, and we will continue to work with our allies, partners, and champions to ensure that our legislature continues to pass bills protecting and expanding reproductive rights in Virginia.
