This bill sponsored by Senator Barbara Favola (D – Arlington) would repeal the TRAP law enacted in 2011 that requires abortion providers’ medical offices to be classified as a category of hospital and directed the Board of Health to promulgate regulations. The 2011 TRAP law was a blatant clinic shutdown law designed to cut off women’s access to reproductive healthcare services, specifically abortion, throughout the Commonwealth. Since the TRAP law was enacted, the number of first trimester abortion providers in Virginia has decreased by one-third, to merely 15 providers.

This bill was passed by indefinitely in the Senate Education and Health Committee during the 2018 General Assembly.
